"Friendships Bloom"
Come join all your friends for a fun filled Texas “W” Club State Meeting, April 16th thru 18th, 2010. It will take place at the Mineola Civic Center in Mineola, Texas, and the theme will be “Friendships Bloom”. Your hosts for this event will be the Nor-Tex Travelers, and they will be encouraging everyone to make new and old friends, while enjoying all of the fun and festivities that has been prepared.
Early arrivals will have the opportunity to visit several nearby local attractions including the Mineola Nature Preserve, on the Sabine River, which is the “birding capital of East Texas” with walking trails, fishing, and wildlife viewings. (There will be carts available weekdays to accommodate your needs). If you’ve never ridden on the Amtrak Railways you can take it to downtown Dallas one day during the week, and return in the afternoon. Another exciting adventure that you shouldn’t miss will be to visit The Tiger Creek Big Cats Rescue Center, east of Mineola that has tigers, lions, leopards, etc. They even have one of Michael Jackson’s tigers donated to this facility from his NeverLand Park in California. How about a round of golf? There is the Mineola Golf course that we can get you and your friends on for a day of fun and competition. Finally, there’s the downtown Mineola area that will get your attention because it’s a very quaint town with antique shops, many good eateries, a historical museum, and the Select Theatre which is one of the oldest continuously operating theatres in Texas.
Thursday evening we have a potluck dinner planned followed by card bingo and games of your choice. After the opening ceremonies Friday morning, you’ll hear about “The History of Mineola” while a hospitality table opens up with snacks and drinks while you visit with your friends across Texas. We’re having a “bring your brown bag” for lunch while listening to Sue Hernandez, from the Nor-Tex Travelers, talk about her “new” heart replacement experiences and the Organ Donation Program (there just may be a special guest that Sue will introduce you to at this time). You’re evening entertainment will be a live auction, of some real nice items, conducted by an auctioneer and his beautiful “girl” helpers. Saturday morning, after breakfast, and the Texas “W” general meeting, there will be plenty of competitive games followed by an Ice Cream Social. After dinner that evening, game winners will be given their awards, followed by a very lively Mineola Line Dance Group (and don’t be surprised if you’re asked to join in so bring your dancing shoes).
The
Meeting fee is $115 for two people and $80 for one, with any
additional guests needing to pay $35.00. This fee will
include 2 evening meals, Saturday breakfast and Sunday morning coffee
and donuts, as well as parking for Friday and Saturday nights.
Early arrivals will be asked to pay the same meeting rate of $20.00 per
night.
