Texas
W made a triumphant return to Red Oak Ranch for our winter meeting.
The weather outside was frigid and wet, but the meeting room
fireplace was blazing and spirits were high as we gathered together
again. We were 74 coaches strong, a proud number in winter,
and
it was so great to see each and every coach arrive and settle in for
food, fun, and friendship. The venue is wonderful for a group
our
size and the fireplace an added bonus. Here you see a very
animated bean bag baseball game in action.

The best laid plans of
the parkers
can sometimes be thwarted. It happened as it usually does when BJ
parks, cold and rainy, but an unforeseen "wrench" was thrown
in
for an additional challenge. The golf cart he was using not only got a
flat tire, but the battery terminal melted AND the brake froze up.
If you happened to see, Tommy Parsley towing it with his GOLF
CART, and Gordon George pushing, you caught a classic "wish I had a
camera moment". BJ, Gordon and Lester took it in stride and
got everyone to their temporary home.

The Food Network couldn't have sent better chefs. They were
working so fast they had to take their chef hats off but kept everyone
fed on delicious hot pancakes at a good pace. Gary, Angel,
Larry,
and Mike representing the NorTex chapter (always ready to get their
pretty faces out there) were heroes on Friday
morning.
The ladies of the chapter were too busy for a photo op,
serving
sausage and keeping the condiments ready and waiting. It was
total comfort food on a really cold morning in January. Angel
also doubled as the "keep the home fires blazing" man by starting the
fire in the fireplace each and every morning. It was
WONDERFUL.

Gail brought her own
keyboard, a very professional looking piece
of orchestration, and provided us with tunes the whole meeting.
She has a marvelous repertoire and could play nearly anything
anyone wanted to hear. It is amazing how much it changes the
ambiance at a gathering to hear such great music as you visit, play
games, or just walk around. There were several ladies who
joined
her and sang along. We can only hope she will continue to
entertain us so unselfishly.

Fay taught
a craft class, with her first class side kick, Marjorie. We
learned how to make these grand floral arrangements with little more
than cloth remnants, a flower stems. Yes, there was more to
it
than that, but they did a great deal of prep work for us and we were
able to channel our most creative selves which resulted in some pretty
chic floral decor.

Washer Toss is always a fun
pastime, and a really serious game to many
of our members. Here we offer a picture of Nancy on
her
first introduction to a washer toss board, and she did really well (at
first). Delilah, a fierce competitor, offers her
some
instruction. It seems Nancy had not signed up but was filling
in
for someone unable to compete. Note that even the necessity
of
coats, hats and gloves did not impede the progress of the game.

Another friendly game of Joker

The Texas W beanbag baseball
season began with a grand total of seven teams
competing. Our own version of the "World
Series" was a playoff held on Saturday and it was filled with
great hitting and tight scores. We even heard allegations of
steroid use, but it was later disputed. It was a nail biter right down
to the top of the seventh inning. In the end it was
won by one run, 24 - 23. Here are the winners in front backed
up by the almost winners, great competitors all.
Olde Wed Game
Our very own rendition of the
"Newly Wed Game" was a resounding hit on the Texas W stage.
The contestants were Gary & Brenda Rigsby, Bobby
& Marty Pearson, and Jim & Shirley Christelles.
The wives and husbands were sequestered while their partners
answered some really good "memory" questions and then brought together
to compare. The MC and his assistant "Miss Vanna" elicited
some really good anomalies in their collective memory banks.
In the end, Gary & Brenda had the most points, Brenda
will never forget her Chevy Pinto, and Jim may buy Shirley flowers.
Ice Cream Social
The Alamo Winnies were proud to model
their Bluebell Creameries "soda jerk" hats while doing ...guess what?
They were really enjoying their ice cream treats from Bluebell
during the Ice Cream Social on Saturday which was hosted by the
Rambling Rose chapter..
Money Hat Winner
The Astrobagos designed and
fabricated this lovely chapeau for our money hat raffle. Everyone
loves to buy a chance to win this hat adorned with the dollar bills.
The winner of this particular hat was Sue Drain and doesn't she
look glamorous modeling it.
