It was a

WIT Tailgate Party
GNR 2007

BBQWelcome BBQ

Texas kicked off  the rally with a Texas style BBQ (brisket brought directly from our great state)  and all the fixin's.  As you can see, Texans  arrived hungry from all over the grounds. There was enough great brisket left for sandwiches on another night.  It was a great chance for all of us to meet those Texans who are not affiliated with Texas W or local chapters.

BBQ
Here we are in Tommy & Delilah's front yard, enjoying the shade and companionship.  We had a wonderful turnout every afternoon for "Social Hour"  in conjunction with whatever other events we had planned (usually involving food).  The tee shirts hanging from the awning represent athletic teams and sports from Texas in keeping with the "Tailgate Party" theme of GNR.

Baseball GameOur TeamTexas Beanbag Baseball Team

We fielded a fantastic team for the annual competition between many states, (un)fortunately we had more fun than success.  We fought valiently but lost to our friends from Minnesota.

L to R Kathie (scorekeeper), Jim, Vera, Gano, Trish, Lester, Patsy, Pokie, Tommy, Ben, and Delilah in front.

Tuesday Afternoon Row Party Events

Lots of ChiliChili Cookoff WinnersChili Cook-Off
We featured the best of Texas chili here at our row party.  Lester and Diana coordinated a magnificent event  with official judges from Winnebago Ind. It was amazing how many different flavors we encountered, from REALLY HOT, to gentle & flavorful.
The winners were....Mary Kerr - White Ribbon; Trish Morris - Red Ribbon; Pokie and Gano Harris with the Blue Ribbon.  We all  hit the jackpot when we got to dig in after the judging.

Street Daninng
Row Party Finale

Tommy and Delilah were dancing to the traveling band (and doing a fine job of it), when we were shocked to see the Row Party Queen head straight into our group.  Melvina had her target in her sights and grabbed Angel, dragging him onto the "dancegrass" for a cozy twirl.  As you can see, he didn't seem to mind in the least, even when Melvina's hair seemed to shift a tad.  This row party had it's own special twist which had these Texans in stitches.

Hot Dog BashHot Dog Bash

Social interaction continued at our hot dog feed.  As you can see, Tommy and Mike where our chefs du jour.  This is no easy feat, as hot dogs take a certain amount of culinary tenderness.  All the guests brought tasty sides to compliment the wonderfully cooked main coarse and we polished off the ice cream left from our ice cream social for the finale.

Guy and Marianne Andenoro presenting the Texas W Chapter of Excellence certificate to Mike. He was also proud to be on hand as our Texas W chapters received their certificates for yet another year of great work.

Sandy Strandlie received a award for her newsletter reporting.  Way to go Sandy!!!

Gprdon GeorgeSharyn MillerThe Arts & Crafts Show brought awards to two very crafty Texans.

Sharyn Miller shows us her Blue Ribbon quilt and Red Ribbon  purse.

Gordon George holds his Texas themed stained glass entry which won him a red ribbon.

We're proud of them both.

Now for the lighter side of things - Only in Texas row

Dead WasherCleanupYou've seen the recliner on the porch within easy reach of the refrigerator, right?  We can go one better, how about a washer/drier on the patio of a motor home?

Our heroes, Larry & Angel decided to "untacky" the neighborhood and after a great deal of manuevering managed to get into the local dumpster.  The funny part (aside from watching them) was that when the refuse removers (politically correct?) came to empty said dumpster, they took it right back out and left it in full view of Texas row for days.
